Meet the Expert – Emily Logan

What I specialise in…

I help organizations understand what it really takes to implement large programs, drive change, and transform. As humans, we like to create new plans, move people around, and re-negotiate contracts because it reduces the complexity of the situation and helps us feel in control. But underneath these tasks is the fact that human behaviour is incredibly hard to change – at an individual level, let alone an organization level. Taking the time to think about change from a behavioural perspective will save lots of time and money in the long run, and I help facilitate these conversations before, during and after a change is created.

I help clients with…

  • Identifying and articulating what is really changing when something is implemented or transformed, and what the underlying behavioural expectations are
  • Creating detailed change management programs that include everything from leadership alignment to comms plans to ways of working workshops
  • Walking alongside clients as they get into the messy middle of a change, helping leaders stay the course when things get challenging, pivot when needed and support their teams with awareness and transparency

One of the major challenges the I am seeing in the market is….

The demands on real estate functions are growing and changing as the environment changes rapidly. With so many things to pay attention to, many are deciding now is the time for multi-faceted transformations (cost cutting, reorganizations, vendor changes, new workplace standards, etc.) but are not fully recognizing how disruptive these can be in an already disruptive talent market.

I try to help clients understand how each of these changes will impact their teams and their operations, so they can be prioritized and sequenced for minimum disruption.

How do you think the market will change in the next 12-24 months?

I believe the market will rebound from some of its focus on technology and get back to the importance of connection, communication, and transparency. This will come with an emphasis on the power of facilitated group workshops to make decisions quickly, drive change, and build collective muscles for adaptability, which is really the most important capability for the future.

Recent impact

I recently had the pleasure of helping one of the world’s largest tech organizations to rethink the way they staff and deliver facilities services. The organization was smart about beginning with behavioural and cultural expectations, and I helped to shepherd these new principles throughout the organization in a way that made teams feel engaged, provided clarity, and created a strong partnership foundation with their vendors.
